Virals by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs

February 10, 2017

Today's book review is a guest post from my friend Colman, age 12. He'll be recommending Middle Grade and Young Adult books from time to time, so stay tuned.

For this review, he selected Virals by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs, featuring protagonist Tory Brennan, niece of acclaimed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (of the Bones TV series and novels.) Virals is a science-focused adventure series with a little bit of sci-fi crossover appeal, set in Charleston, S.C. Read on to see Colman's take on it!

This book, in all, was hilarious, interesting, and REALLY got me thinking. Virals displays a good mystery, humor, and science.

The book’s main character is named Tory Brennan. She recently moved to Charleston and hates it. But when she meets Hiram, Ben, and Sheldon, she's ready for adventure.

When spying on the suspicious and mean head of the local science facility, Loggerhead Island Research Facility, one experiment involving a dog and a virus goes wrong. The teenagers steal the dog, but soon enough, they start to feel really weird and realize that they all have a special power where they have super sensitive hearing, smell, and sight. They use these unexpected powers to try and solve a murder that happened decades ago.

 I give it a 5-star rating. So don't delay---get this book today!

Disclaimer: In my opinion, I would recommend this book for middle school readers and beyond due to content and language.
